Painting competition: Possible chapters for scout biker.

I've narrowed down the possible chapters for my scout biker to the above, from left to right; Lamenters, Howling Griffons and Imperial Fists.  You may notice a slight tinge of yellow to the proceedings, but I've never tried painting yellow power armour and I fancy a challenge.

My current thoughts are as follows:

Lamenters; cool chapter badge and fun doing the checks but the chest eagle looks a little washed out in bone and I'm worried the bike might end up looking like a New York taxi in yellow with black and white checks.

Howling Griffons; nice bright colours but I'm not sure that I could pull of that chapter badge in freehand.

Imperial Fists; I like the bright yellow armour with red chest eagle and the chapter badge looks do able but I know at least one other person is thinking of doing them.  On the plus side I found these on 40k giveaways blog.

A really nice looking scout paint job ready for me to work from....

So votes and ideas please, which should I go for.....

  1. Nice choices. Yellow can be touchy, but a great way to push those skills though - and that's the point really.

Check out "I hate painting yellow" over at APJ. http://www.awesomepaintjob.com/

I bet you could do a variation of it with some browns and white and the Lamenters Yellow glaze from GW...

I vote for The Lamenters as they seem like they would ride bikes being all blood angel-y and whatnot!

  2. I'd likely lean Imperial Fists, but I'm partial to classic chapters.

I think there's a third party Howling Griffon transfer sheet still kicking around the internet. I know that's how I had to find transfers for my Raven Guard when I got started.

    Good Luck.

  4. Cheers for the input guys, I'll have to look out for the extra decals muninn. I'll try and post details of the yellow as I go Ieuan but don't expect too much as its the first time I've painted the colour...

  5. I hear what you're saying about the bone chest eagle but at the end of the its your model so put your mark on it. model it as the squad sarge and paint it gold or bronze just to make it stand out that little bit :-).

    1. Gone for Mephiston red with drakenhof nightshade wash and then highlight back up to mephiston red. Gives a dark rich red that contrasts nicely with the yellow I think. I've just finished the scout and the bike is 30% done so I'll try and post some pictures soon....
